Bad news to all shawties hoping the burn is almost over: Based on estimates by MIT Researcher Lex Fridman Autopilot will reach 2 billion total semi-autonomous miles on Monday, November 11.

Keep in mind that these are just estimates and the actual benchmark could be hit sooner or later. It’s quite possible we’ve already passed the 2 billion mark and Tesla just hasn’t announced it yet.
Will Tesla announce the 2 billion mile mark via a tweet like last time? Or will they save the announcement for November 21, when Tesla unveils it’s all electric self-driving Cybertruck?
The first cars with Autopilot 1 shipped in September 2014. It took more than 4 years to do the first billion miles.
The second billion miles took less than a year. And it’s only growing faster and faster, at an accelerating rate. The exponential rate of improvement is beyond the capabilities of most peoples imaginations.

UPDATE: Last night at around 1 AM Pacific time on the morning of November 9, 2019 Elon Musk liked a link to this blog post. This would suggest that the estimate is accurate or at least in the right ballpark in terms of it’s prediction of when Tesla will hit 2 billion miles
