Extremely sad news tonight. Zappos Founder Tony Hsieh has passed away after reportedly being injured in a house fire. Besides building an insanely customer-focused business at Zappos, which was acquired by Amazon, Hsieh was the face of revitalization for Downtown Last Vegas. He was only 46 years old.
Tragic loss of a special person in Tony Hsieh. My heart goes out especially to his family and closest community and friends.

I'm lucky to have gotten to know Tony Hsieh over the past few years. An endlessly generous person who treated everyone he knew like family. And a rogue original who thought about literally everything from first principles. There was no one quite like him – he'll be hugely missed.

First, the customer service email he wrote to my wife (and 13,000 others) after their orders were a day late…and wherein he suggests they call customer service and ask them to sing I'm a Little Teacup… 1/2 pic.twitter.com/ix1Bds1syO
So sad to hear about Tony Hsieh’s passing. A truly original thinker, a brilliant entrepreneur, and a kind-hearted and generous friend to so many.

In @Redfin's early days, when we had only a handful of employees, I visited @zappos to learn how to build a culture of service. At one point, I was introduced to Tony, who plucked me out of the tour, took me to lunch, and spent the afternoon answering my questions. Who does that?

Tony Hsieh was special. Just look at twitter & how every person he interacted with talked about him. He was the most successful person I met who never took himself too seriously. His generosity was ridiculous. This is the photo that I'll remember him by. pic.twitter.com/0s7f0VqUco

I grew up in Las Vegas and seeing downtown transform from a rough, rundown place to a lively spot supporting local shops, businesses, and budding entrepreneurs was really something else. Tony touched so many of our lives. He is eternal.
