Mercedes “Tesla Killer” EQC Sold 700 Units Total

Simon Alvarez has the latest on the Mercedes-Benz EV, the EQC:

The Mercedes-Benz EQC, a vehicle once considered as a potential “Tesla Killer” and a legitimate threat to the Model X, has reportedly sold less than 700 units in its home country since it was launched. This was according to data from Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority, which stated that only 397 units of the EQC were sold in 2019 and 276 have been sold during the first four months of the year.

Another alleged Tesla killer has been acquitted of all charges.

It should be noted that Mercedes-Benz has not disclosed any official sales numbers for its first modern all-electric vehicle. Nevertheless, the figures from the country’s Federal Motor Transport Authority were quite alarming.

Funny thing –– when sales are good, you usually want to tell everybody.

I demand a serious effort from Legacy Auto. This was not a serious effort. Lately many people want to be “nice” and clap for Legacy Auto’s lackluster EV efforts and vaporware concept cars. I’m not one of those people. Don’t be afraid to laugh at Legacy Auto for putting out a bad product. It’s tough love. The worst thing you could do is start applauding before they get the job done.

Until Mercedes-Benz is selling more electric SUVs than polluting SUVs, I’ll hold my applause.
